Leo Varadkar announces extension of restrictions and path to reopen Ireland
Current restrictions will remain in place until 18 May 2020 at which point Ireland will begin to reopen. The plan assumes 5 stages spaced three weeks apart.
On 18 May the introduction of the plan will commence with the following easing to the restrictions:
- the allowed distance to leave home will be extended from 2km - 5km
- outdoor work and landscaping will be allowed to resume
- people under ‘cocooning’ protocol will be allowed to travel 5km away from home but are advised to avoid contact
Schools are expected to reopen in September.
More detailed information about the plan will be available in the coming days.

- International students on a Stamp 2 visa may work up to 40 hours per week while schools and colleges are closed because of the pandemic
- New arrangements for eligible students who wish to avail of the Third Level Graduate Scheme Visa
- International students that have recently arrived to Ireland and have not yet registered with immigration, will not need to prove that they still have access to €3,000
